IN THE YEAR OF THE PIG

The Fantastic Journeys of Bear & Fox

THE STORY OF TWO LITTLE FRIENDS IN THE BIG, BIG WORLD...

Bear and Fox were sad.

Their friend had gone away to the North and they did not have anyone to play music with.

They tried to make new friends, but Bear and Fox were not very good at such things, besides they only found tight pants and flip-flops and self-tied bow-ties and they were sore afraid. Sure, sometimes they took off their little hats and became Smithers and Jenks to play sad songs with Mount Moriah, but sometimes Bear wanted to yell very loudly and Fox wanted to hit things really hard. They did not know what to do. They were still very sad.

One day, Bear said, “I know, let’s make a song for our friend who is in the North.”

And Fox said, “O-kay…YEAH!”

And so they did, and there was much rejoicing.

But now there was another problem. Bear and Fox did not know what to call their new little musical ensemble. They looked for inspiration, but the world outside their den was still very scary. It seemed as if the policemen were watching them all the time, and there was a very, very bad man who always told lies, even about being a cowboy from Bear’s home state of Texas when he wasn’t a cowboy or even really from there, but people believed his lies. Even worse, the bad man was going to be in charge of the country for a long, long time. They were sore afraid.

Then Bear said, “I know, the bad man in charge is a pig, and the policemen are pigs, and I like to eat pigs, and someone called me a commie pig, and I sure do like red stars…Let’s be called ‘In the Year of the Pig’.”

And Fox, who did not like to eat pigs but had as little understanding of the Chinese Zodiac as Bear, said, “O-kay…YEAH!”

And there was much rejoicing.

Now, Bear and Fox, as In the Year of the Pig, seek to travel the world outside their den in Chapel Hill, NC to make new friends with their music.

Won’t you be their friend?
