Originating as an experiment in the genetic code, the Grant brothers have been making music together since they were kids. With saxophonist Allyson Lipkin, they began to perform as The Deep Sombreros sans percussion in '96. Several drummers have come and gone. Joel Fried (Peenbeats, Beaver Nelson) plays on their Southern Love Records’ release. Their first full length album, "Quien es el Pinche Hombre" combines the homespun Latin flavor of the Grant bros. with the saucy melodies of Lipkin's sax, and offbeat syncopation of drummer Fried. Defying labels and simple descriptions, the album is a blend of blues, hip-hop, and punk styles with a little klezmer and an attitude more hardcore than a Ron Jeremy feature.
